State announces supplemental LIHEAP benefits for households impacted by South Fork and Salt Fires

Over 330 households to receive additional financial assistance for energy costs

SANTA FE — Starting Oct. 3, 2024, approximately 334 New Mexican households affected by the South Fork and Salt fires will receive supplemental payments from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Eligible households will automatically receive their payments by mail, requiring no further action on their part.

“These supplemental payments will provide much needed relief to help affected LIHEAP customers manage energy costs as they continue to recover,” said Niki Kozlowski, Director of Income Support Division.

To qualify for the Disaster LIHEAP supplemental benefit, households must have received a regular LIHEAP payment from Oct.1, 2023 to June 25, 2024, and reside in one of the affected zip codes 88355, 88345, 88346, 88312 or 88340.

These federal funds will help New Mexicans living in areas that were included in the Federal Disaster Declaration for the South Fork and Salt fires.
