LOOKING FOR INFORMATION

In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the federal government did not require people to renew their Medicaid or SNAP. Due to new federal laws and guidelines, everyone will now need to renew their Medicaid and SNAP eligibility when they are notified by the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) to stay enrolled. Some people who no longer qualify for Medicaid may be eligible for help through New Mexico’s Medicaid Transition Premium Relief Program.

But first, you need to complete your Medicaid renewal:

1. Update your contact information with HSD today. Make sure you receive important Medicaid and SNAP renewal notices! Chat with us now to update your contact information. Watch the How to Update your Contact Information Video.
2. Watch for your Turquoise envelope when it’s time to renew. If you have signed up for HSD electronic notices, watch for email or text updates.
3. Complete your renewal application at yes.state.nm.us and click “Renew My Benefits.” When you are notified, sign in at yes.nm.gov and click the Renew My Benefits button to complete your renewal application. If the New Mexico Human Services Department requests more information, please provide it right away. You must complete your renewal application to keep your benefits.

Even if you think you no longer qualify for Medicaid, you should complete your Medicaid renewal process before seeking coverage on beWellnm, New Mexico’s Health Insurance Marketplace.

What if I no longer qualify for Medicaid?

If you learn that you or members of your household no longer qualify for Medicaid, there are still options to stay covered!

Step 1: See if you can get health insurance through your job or someone in your household’s job. Many employers can offer health insurance benefits and cover a portion of monthly premiums for employees and their families.

Step 2: Find an affordable health plan on beWellnm.com. If your job does not offer health insurance or you cannot afford job-based health insurance, you find your coverage options through beWellnm, the New Mexico Health Insurance Marketplace. Through the Medicaid Transition Premium Relief Program, thefirst month’s premium may be covered for qualifying individuals changing from Medicaid to a health plan on beWellnm. The program is meant to minimize coverage disruptions and lock-in consumer protections for qualifying individuals and families who need qualify affordable coverage.
