LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE

The Health Care Authority’s mission is: We ensure that New Mexicans attain their highest level of health by providing whole-person, cost-effective, accessible, and high-quality health care and safety-net services.

Child Support Overview

The primary purpose of the New Mexico Child Support Services Division (CSSD) is to establish and enforce child support obligations for children without both parents in the household. By helping to make sure children receive financial support from both parents, we help the children of New Mexico to have the greatest chance of success in life as well as enable parents to be more self sufficient and less reliant on public assistance.

CSSD offers a variety of services to both parents, such as establishing paternity, setting support orders, modification of existing orders, calculating arrears (backpay), maintaining balances, and payment collection/distribution. These are only a few of the services we offer, and if you are interested in them or learning what other services we have available then please feel free to visit your local CSSD and speak with a case manager for more information.

Once an order for support has been obtained and entered in our system, we will begin the collection and enforcement process.

What is Child Support?

The Federal Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) has produced a three-minute video both in English and in Spanish to aid parents in understanding child support enforcement and its processes. Please take the time to review the video to help understand CSSD’s processes. OCSS has also produced a webpage, Understanding Child Support, to help parents find basic child support information.  Please visit this webpage to find more information.
